About the Miracle League of Moon Township
Meet Luke - the inspiration behind this project!
The Miracle League is coming to Moon Township. With a newly developed field in Moon Park, we're excited to join the Miracle League family and bring an exciting new organization to the area. We are joining multiple affiliated programs in the greater Pittsburgh area, and are an official Pittsburgh Pirates Charity!
Not only are we here for the citizens of Moon Township, but we believe that neighboring communities would also have an interest in our project, including, but not limited to:
Carnegie Borough, Coraopolis Borough, Collier Township, Crafton Borough, Crescent Township, Findlay Township, Kennedy Township, North Fayette Township, Oakdale Borough, Robinson Township, Rosslyn Farms Borough, Sewickley Borough, Thornburg Borough, Beaver County area, Weirton, WV area, Steubenville, OH area
The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep individuals with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for these adults arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed and accessible rubberized field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices while helping to prevent injuries.
But it’s more than playing a game. The Miracle League is about making new friends, building self-esteem and being treated just like other athletes. To help the athletes, the Miracle League uses a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described. The Miracle League will serve children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disability, and will provide them with an opportunity for safe play and to be part of a team.
